12. ONCE UPON A TIME (Imai/Imai)

13. Mudai (Untitled) (Sakurai/Imai)

14. Keijijou Ryuusei -metaform- (Metaphysical Meteor) (Sakurai/Imai)

Though the imagery for Keijijou Ryuusei clearly owes a lot to Russian Constructivism and Soviet propaganda posters, this album cover takes a more surrealist bent, mixing the militant imagery of naval flags, loudspeakers, and rockets with mysterious Delvaux-esque mannequin figures and trains outside the doorway of what would appear to be a child's bedroom, complete with hanging paper stars, matyroshka dolls (there's your Soviet theme again) and toy airplanes.  In the promo photo, the band members are standing in this room, holding the various toys, and the faceless figure in the doorway on the cover would appear to be dressed in the same clothes as Imai.

Russian Constructivism, as exemplified by the work of Aleksandr Rodchenko.  (Look on Buck-Tick's website to see how they ripped off this poster)

...and here's the toy plane.

...and here are some of the visual effects from the "Keijiou Ryuusei" PV, viewable here.

Trains, perspective, architecture, and mysterious figures in the work of Paul Delvaux. Note the similar imagery, composition and color palette.

Ai no Wakusei Explosion Live DVD

This is the live DVD of Sakurai Atsushi's solo concert at NHK Hall in 2004.  Reportedly, this concert was what inspired Imai to create the concept for the 13kai wa Gekkou album, though as the stage sets are minimal, I feel sure that Imai must have been inspired by Sakurai's performance itself. Sakurai is joined onstage by an all-star backup band, including Fujii Maki (formerly of Soft Ballet) on synth, Jake CloudChair (formerly of Guniw Tools) on guitar, and guest appearances by Satou Taiji (Theater Brook) and Cube Juice. In addition to his own solo works, Sakurai performs covers of David Bowie's "Space Oddity," Sawada Kenji's "Love -Dakishimetai," and Yuming's "Amaoto wa Chopin no Shirabe."  The DVD contains the full concert, plus a live music video for "Wakusei -Rebirth," and a bonus image gallery. It comes in a smoke grey hard plastic case.  The copy I currently have for sale is in perfect condition and includes the obi strip. Very rare and out of print. Region 2. A true treasure for any fan of Mr. Sakurai, including non-fangirl fans - it's a great show and a beautiful video.

Buck-Tick Singles on Digital Video Disc (Limited Edition)

Released in 2006 as part of Buck-Tick's 20th anniversary promotions, this limited edition DVD contains the music videos for all of Buck-Tick's singles from "Just One More Kiss" through to "Romance."  Housed in a deluxe LP-sized box, it also comes with a bonus disc containing sexxxy making-of footage, a jumbo booklet full of promo photos from all the single releases, a keychain, and a huge and really awesome poster. Fun fact: Cayce has had this poster hanging on the walls of various apartments for approximately five years.  Anyhow, I can personally say that watching all these music videos in DVD quality is a lot more fun than watching them on YouTube.  You can put them on the big screen and see them in all their crisp glory, delectating over all kinds of details you'd never be able to see on the YouTube screen!  Highly recommended, rare and out of print. Region 2. Great condition. Loads of PV screencaps available on BT Zone.

Ikonokrusm Photobook Set

Released in 2002 to commemorate Buck-Tick's 15th anniversary, this deluxe photobook set contains two volumes of arty photographs of the band.  The green volume contains mostly posed shots of the band members backstage and wandering around in front of a big brooding clanking oil refinery of the type Imai thinks is so sexy (fun fact: Cayce actually knows the guy who built this oil refinery!)  The red volume contains live photography and backstage candids from the Warp Days Tour.  The two photobooks are housed in a big shiny black slipcase.  Aside from a small dent at the top of the slipcase, the set is in perfect condition.  Rare and out of print.
5500 yen.

Big brooding clanking oil refinery! Imai is aroused.

Cigarettes suck! (get it?)

Just look at that phallic symbol.

There are like a zillion shades of grey in this photo. Eat that, Christian.

More shades of grey, and one shade of blond. That Imai's such an iconoclast I mean, ikonokrust.

Fangirl juices time.

Slugging wine out of the bottle, to fortify himself against fangirl juices.

Acchan-chan smokes. Yutaka is smokin'.

Tour Tickets For Sale

Attention Blog-Tickers:

We currently have two pairs of fan club tickets available for Buck-Tick's 2014 Arui wa Anarchy Hall Tour!

2 tickets for the show on Sunday, July 20th at Nara Centennial Hall in Nara, Nara Prefecture (within easy travel distance of Kyoto, Osaka, Kobe, and Nagoya)

AND

2 tickets for  the show on Monday, July 21st at Kobe Kokusai Kaikan in Kobe, Hyogo Prefecture (within easy travel distance of Kyoto, Osaka, Nara, and Okayama)

Seating is not released until three weeks before the tour, but these are fan club tickets, so there is a chance they are good seats.  Both sets of tickets are contiguous pairs, so you can bring a buddy or a sweetie.  Both locations are accessible by bullet train from Tokyo for about 12000 yen one-way ticket.  From Tokyo, the trip would take about three hours door to door.

If you're one of those kids who's planning on flying to Japan from another country to see the tour, and but you lost the ticket lottery for the shows in Tokyo, I highly recommend you consider attending the tour in Kansai instead!  Tickets to shows in Tokyo are highly sought after and if you lost out on the lottery you're going to have a hard time getting tickets through general admission sales and/or auctions.  The prices are likely to be higher and the seats aren't likely to be as good.  Furthermore, Tokyo fans can be spoiled snots, but Kansai fans are famous for being friendly and knowing how to party.

In addition, Kansai is a great place to visit if you're a tourist.  Kobe is famous for its beautiful hilly scenery and delicious sake, while Nara is famous for being the original capital of Japan, and home to a number of very famous and beautiful temples, as well as the largest bronze Buddha in the world, situated in the middle of a park full of tame deer who will eat out of your hand.  Both cities are a short train trip from Kyoto, the historical heart of the country, packed with all kinds of interesting places to visit.  As a bonus, Kansai received minimal fallout from Fukushima so you don't even have to worry about a radioactive holiday.

If you are interested in buying any of these tickets, please email me at themadaristocrat at gmail for further details.

For those of you who are concerned about whether our tickets are ethically sourced, we'll say that these are tickets we're selling on behalf of a fan who has become unable to make it to the tour due to unfortunate circumstances. They couldn't be more free-range and fair trade.
