Zero Lyrics and Night Salome

Sorry for the wait, kids - we had some work to do, some Real Life to accomplish, and we wanted to let the new album percolate in our head for a bit before getting started on translating it. But here it is! The kanji, romaji, and translations for "Igniter," "Reishiki 13-Gata 'Ai'," and "Bishuu Love" are now up over at This is NOT Greatest Site. If you enjoy the translation of a particular song and send us a Ko-Fi with the song title attached, we'll add a "sponsored by" credit with your name, so you can publicly claim the song as your favorite! NGS doesn't allow commenting, but feel free to leave your comments on the songs at the bottom of this post.

Also, we would like to call your attention to the following:

The above screenshots are from Buck-Tick's Yumemiru Uchuu tour, and from the 1974 film The Night Porter (styled in Japanese as「愛の嵐」or "Storm of Love"), which had a massive influence on the gothic aesthetic and the Japanese underground scene. There's a reference to the film in the lyrics to "Hikari no Teikoku" (sorry, we haven't finished that one yet, but we'll get there), which put us in a mind to watch it again. We already discussed the film's influence on Sakurai's above costume in our article So You Want To Be a Goth? But watching it again, we remembered - after finishing the smutty dance depicted above, the heroine is presented with an, um, unique reward from the king of the hill. Watch her reaction...

Holy shit, it's a severed head! Remember who else got a severed head as a prize for doing a sexydance? Our salacious sister Salome, that's who. Which makes us wonder if this film is the first place where Sakurai encountered the story of Salome. Either way, it clearly made a large impression on him. We encourage you to take especial note of the fact that on the Yumemiru Uchuu tour, and in the performance of "Yasou" in particular, in paying homage to this film's iconic scene, Mr. Sakurai was dressed like a woman dressed like a man. Dress, indeed.

He's so disappointed she didn't like his present. But when you're a Nazi, that's what you get.

(If you think sex with Nazis couldn't possibly be fun, this film will try very hard to change your mind. If that bothers you, don't watch the film. If BDSM in uniform bothers you in the nethers in a good way, then definitely watch the film.)

More translations coming soon.

  2. When I think of WW2 and the occupation of the Netherlands, I think of a woman named Mata Hari, She was a member of the resistment and slept with the Nazi's in order to find out their even plans. Of course it's a (real life) story without a happy end.........
